Angiotensin III (AngIII)

Ang-III; Angiotensin-3

Angiotensin III, A heptapeptide derivative of angiotensin II that exhibits some of the vasopressor and aldosterone stimulation effects of its precursor.

Angiotensin II is degraded to angiotensin III by angiotensinases that are located in red blood cells and the vascular beds of most tissues. It has a half-life in circulation of around 30 seconds, while in tissue, it may be as long as 15–30 minutes.Angiotensin III has 40% of the pressor activity of Angiotensin II, but 100% of the aldosterone-producing activity. In the kidney, angiotensin II (Ang II) is metabolized to angiotensin III (Ang III) by aminopeptidase A (APA). In turn, Ang III is metabolized to angiotensin IV by aminopeptidase N (APN). Renal interstitial (RI) infusion of Ang III, but not Ang II, results in angiotensin type-2 receptor (AT2R)-mediated natriuresis.
